What are you afraid of today?
Fear weighs heavy on our hearts and minds these days.
Murder, attacks, and senseless violence hovers like a thick, damp, fog over our world. There is pain, despair, and fear in the voices and images of the tragedies in quick succession. The fear looming over every act is, “What’s next?”
Perhaps your fears lie closer to home.
Maybe you fear ending a toxic relationship. Or hold onto fear over your finances, health, or the work load that faces you in the week ahead.
Regardless of the scope of the fear holding you hostage, it is crippling nonetheless.
We all have the same choice.
We can choose fear or choose love.
In His word, God tells us how to get rid of the fear.
“Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love.”
1 John 4:18
[Tweet “God’s perfect love expels all fear. All. As in ALL.”]
When we experience God’s perfect, unmerited, unconditional love, fear will begin to melt away. Drip by drip. Thought by thought. Worry by worry. Melting like and iceberg in the Caribbean ocean.
When I don’t choose God’s love, by default I am choosing fear. Fear is a trap from the enemy of our soul. A dagger to our heart. Fear is the basis for worry. And we all know that worry keeps us really busy, but gets us nowhere.
So why don’t you and I choose God’s perfect love instead of fear? Because we have believed the damaging lie that we don’t deserve God’s love. And since we feel unworthy of such great love, we choose fear. And fear is destroying us, our lives, and the world around us.
Can you imagine how different your world, your life, would look without fear? It is possible. Not only is it possible, but it is a a promise from an Almighty God! You can count on it!
Do you want that? A fear-free life? I do. I want to be done with fear. The big weighty world fears and the my small corner of the world fears. I want to be done with all of them. I choose love. I choose God’s perfect love.
How do we do this? Choose love over fear?
1. It starts with choosing God, because God love. (1 John 4:8)
2. Followed by accepting God’s perfect love given through His Son, Jesus. God sending His Son to die in your place. (Romans 5:8)
3. And finally, growing in understanding of that great love. (Ephesians 3:14-19)
It’s quite simple actually. Choosing love is choosing God. Not choosing God is choosing fear.
It’s a daily, moment-by-moment choice.
Which would you rather have?
What if everyone in the world chose God and His perfect love over fear?
It starts with you and me.
Are you ready?
Let’s choose love. God’s love.
Let’s start today.
