Rest… the word has such a beautiful ring to it.
Rest- that elusive, but ever sought after, state of ceasing from work and action.
But how does a working woman of faith rest? She’s so busy!
On a daily basis there are times when I am:
- over-burdened, and
I feel the stress of:
- timelines, and
- long lines
There are days when I wonder how I will make it through the day, let alone the whole work-week. These are feelings every working woman experiences, but we are working women of faith…we are supposed to be different.
Jesus gives us the answer in Matthew 11:28.
Come to Him. It’s that simple.
We can come to Jesus any time, day or night, and He will give us rest. It’s a promise of God, and God always keeps His promises. This is a conditional promise though, we must come to Him first, and then we receive the rest.
[Tweet “God’s promise of rest requires that we first come to Him. We can’t have rest apart from God.”]
Coming to Jesus means admitting that we need Him and cannot do it alone. If there is one sin that I have to continually confess to God, it is the sin of independence. How often I try to go it alone. I attempt to do it all myself and then wonder why I am tired. When I come to Jesus, I admit that I am unqualified and unable to do anything apart from Him. It is in the release of control, fully trusting that God can handle it, that I find rest.
Will you practice rest with me this week? Will you practice daily the release of everything to God, so you can rest in His abilities? Whisper His name….Jesus. Take a moment to come to Jesus, and experience true rest in the midst of your work.
