Do you remember the last time you were thrilled about something? Anything?
A breathtaking sunrise?
The sweetness of a child’s smile?
Someone’s hand in yours?
Or is the thrill gone from your life? Does each day feel dull and lifeless?
Do hear the sound of birds singing anymore, or just the constant drone of the daily grind?
When is the last time you were thrilled by God?
When is the last time you were moved by God’s presence? Or saw His fingerprints on your life? Or recounted His goodness on any given day?
Or do you feel like God is a cold, distant memory?
In our verse for the week, we have the prescription for getting the thrill back again:
“You thrill me, Lord, with all you have done for me!
I sing for joy because of what you have done.”
Getting the thrill back in our lives starts with taking a look back. Looking back at God’s goodness. Looking back at all the wonderful blessings we have been given.
[Tweet “Getting the thrill back in our lives starts with rehearsing God’s goodness.”]
Gratitude has always been the key to happiness.
Praise to God for His goodness is the highest form of gratitude.
The problem is most of us don’t pause long enough to remember God’s goodness.
Last week I took a trip to Chicago for business. I had a full day of God’s goodness on Thursday. As I rode the train out of the city to go back to my hotel, I sat there and reflected on the day. I paused and looked at what God had done for me in that one day. A huge smile spread across my face and I couldn’t make it go away. I was so thrilled by what the Lord had done for me! The other passengers must’ve thought I was crazy (or worse), but I didn’t care! I was too thrilled by God to care what others thought of me.
What about you?
When was the last time you paused?
When was the last time you were thrilled?
As you go through this week ahead, take this verse with you. Stop and pause long enough to let God thrill you!
